Weeds are a symptom, not the disease
A thick, tall lawn barely gets weeds. A thin, scalped lawn gets all of them. Our weed control program does two things at once: we knock out the weeds you have with targeted treatments, and we fix the conditions that invited them — usually mowing height and thin spots — so they stay gone.
Orlando's usual suspects
Dollarweed loves wet, compacted soil. Crabgrass moves into thin, sunny spots in summer. Nutsedge pops up in damp areas with its telltale triangular stem. Each needs a different product and timing — blanket-spraying one herbicide on everything is how lawns get damaged. We identify first, then treat.
Pre-emergent: stopping weeds before they start
Pre-emergent treatments form a barrier in the soil that stops weed seeds from sprouting. Timed right — late winter into spring for summer weeds — it prevents most of the crabgrass and annual weeds before you ever see them. Existing weeds get spot-treated so we use less product overall.
How It Works
- Free quote and weed walk. Call or send the form. We ask what weeds you are seeing and how big the lawn is, then quote the program clearly.
- Identification first. On the first visit we identify exactly which weeds are in your lawn — dollarweed, crabgrass, sedge, and others all need different treatments. Guessing is how lawns get burned.
- Pre-emergent barrier. We lay down the pre-emergent at the right time of year so weed seeds never sprout. Late winter into spring stops summer weeds; the barrier lasts for months.
- Spot-treat what is already there. Existing weeds get targeted treatment — only where they are, not blanket-sprayed across healthy grass. Less product, better results.
- Fix the invitation. We tell you what invited the weeds: usually mowing too short, thin spots, or drainage issues. Fix the cause and the weeds stop coming back.
- Season-long follow-up. Weeds do not surrender in one visit. We check back through the season, touch up breakthrough weeds, and keep the barrier strong.
Orlando's weed calendar
Weeds in Orlando do not take winters off — they just change shifts. Late winter into spring is pre-emergent season: get the barrier down before soil warms and summer weed seeds wake up. Summer brings crabgrass and nutsedge in the heat, plus dollarweed wherever soil stays soggy from daily rain. Fall is cleanup time: treat what broke through and keep the lawn thick going into the cool months.
The single biggest weed-prevention move is free: mow tall. St. Augustine cut at 4 inches shades the soil so weed seeds never get the light they need to sprout. Half of our weed-control job is just making sure the mower is set right.
Why mowing height is weed control
Here is the honest truth most companies will not tell you: if your lawn is mowed short, no amount of weed killer will keep it clean for long. Sunlight hits the soil, weed seeds sprout, and you are spraying forever. Raise the cut to 3.5–4 inches and the grass does the weed control itself — the treatments just handle the stubborn leftovers. That is why our weed program starts with a look at your mowing height, not a spray tank.
Safe around kids, pets, and the lake
We spot-treat instead of blanket-spraying, which means far less product on your lawn overall. After treatment, we ask you to keep kids and pets off the grass until it dries — usually a few hours. Near lakes and ponds, we keep buffers along the water and choose products with runoff in mind. Your lawn gets clean; everything around it stays safe.
HOA curb appeal, without the warning letter
Weeds are the fastest way to turn a decent lawn into an HOA violation. Most Orlando HOAs require lawns free of visible weeds, and dollarweed patches spreading across the front yard will get you noticed. A weed-free lawn is also one of the most affordable curb-appeal upgrades there is — nothing makes a house look cared-for like clean, even grass.
Dollarweed: Orlando's signature weed
If there is one weed that defines Orlando lawns, it is dollarweed — those round, lily-pad leaves spreading across damp lawns. Dollarweed is not really a weed problem; it is a water problem. It thrives where soil stays soggy: low spots, compacted areas, and lawns watered too often.
That is why spraying dollarweed without fixing the water never works for long. Our approach: treat the existing dollarweed, then fix what invited it — adjust the sprinklers, address the low spot, or aerate the compacted soil. Lawns that drain properly barely get dollarweed. Lawns that do not will grow it back no matter what you spray.
Nutsedge: the weed that laughs at mowers
Nutsedge looks like grass until you look close: lighter green, faster-growing, with a triangular stem you can feel by rolling it between your fingers. It spreads by underground tubers, which means pulling it usually makes it worse — each broken tuber sprouts a new plant.
Nutsedge needs its own product and its own timing, applied when the plant is actively growing so it carries the treatment down to the tubers. It is one of the most satisfying weeds to beat, because the right treatment at the right time wipes out what years of pulling never fixed.
